چکیده

Patients with pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) have been commonly withheld from magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures because of magnetic resonance (MR) safety concerns. In response to this clinical need, MR-conditional pacemakers and ICDs have been developed to allow these patients access to MRI. The potential interactions between MRI and recently developed MR-conditional implantable electronic devices have been extensively studied and reviewed. These interactions include magnetic force and torque, radio frequency-induced heating, induction of electric currents, and electromagnetic interference. Medical device manufacturers have modified the designs of pacemakers and ICDs by using less ferromagnetic material, developing innovative lead wires to reduce radio frequency heating, and advancing circuitry and shielding to reduce electromagnetic interference. The safety and efficacy of these MR-conditional devices have been the primary end point of the EnRhythm, Advisa, and Evera-MRI trials, among others.

Canadian Heart Rhythm Society and Canadian Association of Radiologists consensus statement on magnetic resonance imaging with cardiac implantable electronic devices.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has historically been considered contraindicated for individuals with cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) such as pacemakers and implantable defibrillators. Magnetic resonance scanners produce magnetic fields that can interact negatively with the metallic components of CIEDs. However, as CIED technology has advanced, newer MRI conditional devices have...

Cardiovascular magnetic resonance in cardiac sarcoidosis with MR conditional pacemaker in situ

Cardiovascular implantable electronic devices represent important limitations to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Recently, MRI-conditional dual chamber pacemakers and leads have become available. We describe a case of a patient with neuro-sarcoidosis presenting with diplopia and hydrocephalus requiring an MRI-conditional programmable ventriculo-peritoneal shunt, who developed complete heart b...

Magnetic resonance imaging safety in pacemaker and implantable cardioverter defibrillator patients: how far have we come?

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has long been regarded a general contraindication in patients with cardiovascular implanted electronic devices such as cardiac pacemakers or cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs) due to the risk of severe complications and even deaths caused by interactions of the magnetic resonance (MR) surrounding and the electric devices. Over the last decade, a better understan...

Safety of magnetic resonance imaging in patients with implanted cardiac prostheses and metallic cardiovascular electronic devices.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in patients with implanted cardiac prostheses and metallic cardiovascular electronic devices is sometimes a risky procedure. Thus MRI in these patients should be performed when it is the only examination able to help with the diagnosis. Moreover the diagnostic benefit must outweigh the risks. Coronary artery stents, prosthetic cardiac valves, metal sternal sutur...

Cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging in patients with MR-conditional devices: a UK tertiary centre experience on image quality and change in patients management

Background Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) examinations is increasingly used in daily clinical practice. Conventional pacemakers and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD) have always been regarded as a contraindication to MR imaging. However the introduction of MR-conditional systems have significantly improved access to MR examinations. Limited data exists regarding indications...
